The 3D MAMMOGRAPHY exam has been proven to detect breast cancer 15 months earlier, reduce unnecessary callbacks by up to 40%, and find 41% more invasive cancers than conventional mammography alone.
Because our primary goal is always to deliver the highest quality care to our patients, we are adding breast tomosynthesis to our radiology services.
The 3D MAMMOGRAPHY exam allows doctors to examine breast tissue layer by layer. So, instead of viewing all of the complexities of the breast tissue in a flat image, as with conventional 2D mammography, fine details are more visible and no longer hidden by the tissue above or below.
Sakakawea Medical Center will be offering the Genius 3D mamography exam from Hologic.
Doctors agree that early detection is the best defense against breast cancer. Successful treatment and survival rates for breast cancer patients are dramatically affected by early detection of breast cancers. If breast cancer is found early, the five-year survival rate is almost 100 percent.
3D mammography exams are expected to be available at the new Sakakawea Medical Center in April 2017.
