Surgical Spotlight: WHAT IS VARITHENA THERAPY?

Varithena (polidocanol injectable foam) is a prescription medicine used to treat varicose veins caused by problems with the great saphenous vein (GSV) and other related veins in the leg’s GSV system. Varithena improves symptoms, related to or caused by varicose veins, and the appearance of varicose veins.

Common symptoms

Varicose veins can cause uncomfortable symptoms, such as achiness, swelling, throbbing, heaviness, and itching.

Common risk factors

Family history, aging, being overweight or obese, and working at jobs requiring prolonged standing can increase the risk for varicose veins.

Why they occur

Varicose veins occur when the tiny valves inside the veins become weaker, causing blood to back up and make the veins swell.

Because Varithena is minimally invasive and well tolerated by most patients, patients may resume most normal activities the same day as treatment. To learn more about this procedure consult your local health care provider.
